Each member of a bomber crew was skilled in his own discipline, each member played a vital role in trying to ensure their efficiency, their accuracy and ultimately their survival.  Regardless of rank, the pilot was always "the skipper", his word, his command was law.  The bond that was intended to be established  early on in their entity as a unit at Operational Training Unit (OTU) was a key element in their existence, both on and off operations.

 Dissenting voices, antagonism or "square pegs in round holes" were usually quickly and efficiently dealt with by a "sacking" and replacement.
